It’s been a test of logistical planning, but 2025 Tahoe Rim Trail Endurance Runs (TRTER) race organizers are still providing trail runs beginning and ending at John L. Harvey Field at Western Nevada College this weekend.
“Yes, indeed, it’s race week, and hot as usual,” said TRTER Race Director George Ruiz.
TRTER has adjusted its event courses for Saturday, July 19, because of Marlette Dam and Flume pipeline projects in the Sierra backcountry normally utilized by participants, their teams and race infrastructure in the 100-mile and 50-mile endurance runs.
Consequently, the 100- and 50-mile events have been canceled, and 50K and 14-mile races are starting at 7 a.m.
“Having to delay registration twice really hurt registrations this year. So, we are looking at a couple of hundred runners instead of the normal 500-600,” Ruiz said.
The only change to the 50K course is the subtraction of the loop around Marlette Peak. Runners take off from John L. Harvey Field, proceed up Ash Canyon Road to Snow Valley Peak, then traverse the Tahoe Rim Trail to Laxalt Junction. Participants then proceed to Capital 2 Tahoe Trail to Waterfall Aid Station, then head home via the familiar Ash Canyon trail to the baseball diamond.
As for the 14-mile route, runners will take off from John L. Harvey Field, climb Ash Canyon to Kings Trail, then swing by Waterfall Aid Station before racing back to WNC.
“We’re proud to once again welcome the Tahoe Rim Trail Endurance Runs to Western Nevada College. Even with course adjustments, the resilience and determination of this event — and its runners — perfectly reflect the spirit of our campus and community.”
An Ultra Lounge Party awaits finishers, providing with relief from the heat and their arduous accomplishment. Among the rewards at WNC are foot baths, Hoch Family Creamery ice cream, live music from EV and the Electric Soup, and adult beverages.
Registration for the endurance runs closed on Sunday, July 13.
